Use this Fall Prevention Month printable display on a wall or board to raise awareness in your organization. Instructions are included about how to put the various printable pages together to form the display. You can use your own brochures and handouts as well.

Everyone has a role to play in preventing falls. These posters can be used by facility staff and housekeeping in various health/business and housing settings to engage to raise consciousness around safe floors. You could pair this with encouraging clients/patients/residents, staff and public to be a safety champion and alert staff when they see something causing risk.

Costs: Cost of photocopying, a display board (if desired), copies of brochures, environmental checklist, Vitamin D brochure, and copies of any other resources that people can take.
Timeline for Activity: This activity can be done anytime throughout the year.

Materials, Resources and People Needed for the Activities:

One person is needed to decide when and where to set up the display, to copy the suggestions and get copies of the brochures and checklists to be left with the display for people to take.

Suggested Action Steps to run this Activity

 

  • There are many places where staff would allow a fall prevention display. Please use the posters in theFall Prevention Month display or the posters in the “Promotion and Media” section to help raise awareness for Fall Prevention Month.

 

  • If you have a regional library system, you may be able to speak with head office for permission and have fall prevention resources distributed through their couriers.  If your libraries are stand-alone, perhaps both you and/or your fall prevention colleagues would be able to negotiate directly with the department head and deliver the fall prevention resources. 

 

  • Other sites could be hospitals, doctor’s offices, pharmacies, dining for seniors clubs, exercise centres, long-term care centres and community-based health care centres – even dentist, physiotherapy and optometry offices. If any of these similar organizations have their own courier system (as above), that is a great way to do promotion with minimal time and expense.
